Pitkästä aikaa... Here again...

Tämä kesä oli poikkeuksellisen kuuma, joten käsityöt olivat sivuroolissa suurimman osan kesää. Alkukesästä sain jotakin valmiiksi ja tehtyä mm. yhden pulleronallen, kahden norsun ja lähes kahden lohikäärmeen palasetkin valmiiksi. Aloitin myös yhden viltin virkkaamisen. Nyt kun vähän viileni, olen kutomassa jo neljättä paria sukkia. Alkukesästä tein jo yhden parin. Eli käsityöhommat käynnistyvät taas uudelleen kun helteet helpottivat. Kuvassa keskeneräinen sukkapari ja korissa kaikenlaista sekalaista mitä on tekeillä. Laitan myöhemmin kuvia valmiista ja valmistuvista töistä, mutta nyt täytyy suunnata nukkumaan. This summer was exceptionally long and hot here in Finland. Therefore I did not get around to do a whole lot knitting or crocheting. In the beginning of the summer, when it still was a bit cooler, I did make a pair of socks and the parts for one puffy teddy bear, two elephants and almost two dragons. I also started on a blanket. Now that it has finally cooled down a bit, I have in two weeks knitted almost four pairs of woolen socks. Here is a picture of the pair that is still unfinished and my WIP basket. I will later post pics of the other stuff I have done over the summer. But now I'm off to bed. Have a nice rest of the summer everybody!

Jämälankasukkailua - Socks from Scrap Yarn

Pieni välityö parissa illassa telkkaria katsoen. Päätin tänä vuonna pyrkiä käyttämään valtavia (oikeasti siis aika valtavia...) lankavarastojani pois. Aloitin tekemällä tällaiset jämälankasukat, ihan vain hyvin perusmallilla. Tein ne lähinnä itselleni, eli koossa 37-38, koska tämä oli vain tällainen jämälankaprojekti ja olen itse villasukkien suuuuuurkuluttaja. Näissä on käytetty 7-veljestä raitalankaa, sen verran kuin sitä oli ja kärjissä on 7-veljestä tumman sinisessä värissä. Puikot 3,5 mm. Lisäksi tekeillä on peräti 3 erilaista vilttiä, mutta niistä lisää myöhemmin...


This was a little side project for two nights while watching TV. I decided to try to use up some of my huge (and I do mean HUGE) stash of yarn and decided to make these very basic socks from some scrap yarn. These are for me, since I am a tremendous wool sock user, so they are in size 7. Yarn used was 7 Veljestä with 3,5 mm needles. I am also working on 3 different kinds of word chart blankets, but more about them later...

Hyvää Uutta Vuotta! - Happy New Year!

Kiirettä on pitänyt, enkä ole ennättänyt joulukuun alun jälkeen päivittämään blogia. Ilokseni voin kertoa, että muutamia käsitöitä on kuitenkin tässä välissä ennätänyt valmistua. Toivon, että vuonna 2018 pystyn tekemään oman ennätykseni, vuosi 2017 oli niin vaikea monella rintamalla, että yksinkertaisesti jaksaminen ja aika eivät riittäneet mihinkään urotöihin käsitöiden saralla. Tämä on kyllä ollut voimaannuttava harrastus nyt, kun taas olen jaksanut jatkaa. Monta työtä on valmistunut ja monta on tekeillä. Teen niistä oman postauksen vähän myöhemmin. Tässä kuitenkin tämän vuoden ensimmäinen valmistunut työ, villasukat Regian 6-säikeisestä raitalangasta.


I have been so busy that I have not managed to update my blog since the beginning of December. I am happy to say, though that I have been able to finish several projects in this time. I hope I can beat my own record from 2016 this year. 2017 was a very difficult in many fronts, so I did not have the possibility to break any records in crafts. This is a great hobby and I has given me so much and I am happy to have been able to continue with my crafts. i have finished several projects, as said and will make a new post about them a bit later. Here is my first finished project for this year, a pair of woollen socks. They are made with Regia 6 ply stripe yarn.

Eläkelahja pomolle - A Retirement Gift for the Boss

Pitkäaikainen esimieheni jää eläkkeelle tämän vuoden lopussa. Tein hänelle eläkelahjaksi tällaiset tummansiniset Reaverse/Converse villasukkatennarit. Toivottavasti ilahduttavat häntä pitkään. Sukat on tehty 7 veljestä langasta 3,5 mm puikoilla. Tämä kerä oli omituisen pehmeää lankaa, jotenkin ohuempaa ja kummallista. Täytyy toivoa, että jatkossa ko. lanka olisi taas tasalaatuisempaa.

My boss is retiring and I made her these Converse/Reaverse slipper socks as a retirement gift. Hope they keep her warm for a long time. These socks were made with a Finnish sock yarn 7 veljestä using 3,5 mm needles. 

Hyvää Isänpäivää! - Happy Fathers' Day!

Tänä sunnuntaina, marraskuun toisena sunnuntaina vietetään isänpäivää. Minulle isä on tärkeä ja tänä vuonna päätin tehdä hänelle itse lahjan. Tein hänelle tällaiset tummanvihreät Reaverse/Converse villasukkatennarit. Lankana on 7-veljestä, jonka koostumus on kyllä ajan mittaan muuttunut, eikä pelkästään parempaan suuntaan. Ohjeen voi ostaa vaikkapa Ravelrysta. Olen tehnyt näitä villasukkatennareita jonkin verran ja aina vähän väliä vannonut, ettei koskaan enää! Koska ne ovat melkoisen työläät tehdä. Kuitenkin tuossa on muutama pari lisäksi lähes valmiina, että vannomatta paras...


This Sunday, the second Sunday of November, is Fathers' Day here in Finland. I love my dad dearly and this year I decided to make him something myself. I made him a pair of these Reaverse/Converse slippersocks in dark green. The yarn used is a woolen yarn, 7-veljestä "7 Brothers". You may buy the pattern at Ravelry. I have made these socks several times and also several times sworn not to ever make them again, since they are a LOT of work. Well, I have several pairs almost finished, yet again, so I guess never say never...

Reaverse/Converse tennarit - Converse slipper socks

Sainpa viimein valmiiksi nämäkin. Nimittäin omat Reaverseni! Tein sukat jo joskus syksyllä ja olen pikkuhiljaa aina muiden töiden sivussa tehnyt jonkin osan valmiiksi. Tänään sain viimein inspiraation tehdä kaikki osat loppuun ja ommella tennarit kokoon. Jee! Väri näissä on fuksia, vaikka se taitaa kuvissa enemmänkin näyttää tummanpunaiselta. Että on vaikea kuvata talvella mitään! Paukkupakkasilla (tänään on ollut -25c) ei ole paljon nenäänsä viitsinyt ulos pistää, mitä nyt hevoset on käyty hoitamassa, joten virkkaus- ja kutomisaikaa on tällä viimeisellä lomaviikolla ollut reilusti. I finally managed to finish these Converse slipper socks. And they are for me! I knitted the sock parts sometime during the Fall and have every now and then done a little this and that to further this project. But today I finally had a boost and finished all the parts and sewed them together. Yey me! These are fuchsia colored, but due to the pictures taken inside, they look more like dark red in the pictures. It is so hard to get decent pictures during the wintertime inside. It has been freezing cold here in Finland, minus 25 degrees celsius today, so I have had plenty of time for crocheting and knitting. I have only been out of the house to take care of the horses. Pieni välityö - A Little Something in Between

Olen melkoinen villasukkien suurkuluttaja. Olen käytännössä aina kotona villasukat jalassa. Villasukkia myös sitä myöten kuluu hurjaa tahtia. Päkiän kohta tuntuu kuluvan puhki ensimmäisenä. Olen tehnyt viime aikoina paljon sukkia muille, mutta nyt oli pakko tehdä viimein nopsasti itsellekin villasukat, ihan vaan arkikäyttöön. Minulla on tosi paljon lankoja varastossa... Varastoistani kaivelin myös tämän jo jonkin aikaa odotelleen 7-veljestä Polkka-langan. Väri langassa on lila eri sävyissään, mutta jostain syystä talvella on päiväsaikaankin tosi vaikea saada kuviin oikeat värit. sukat ovat hyvin perusmallia, enkä viitsinyt etsiä edes langasta samaa aloituskohtaa, koska sukat tulevat kotikäyttöön itselle. Pidän enemmän seiskaveikan Raita-langoista, mutta Polkassakin on se kiva puoli, että kuvio syntyy ihan itsestään.
Tässä siis tänä vuonna valmistunut ensimmäinen työni. Jee!


I use a lot of woolen socks. Basically all the time I am at home, I am wearing a pair! This also means I wear them out a lot too. It seems that the ball of the foot is the part that wears out first in my case. I have knitted a lot of socks for others recently, but now had to knit a pair for myself, just to wear around the house. I have such a huge storage of yarn... This yarn I have had quite a while. It is called "7-veljestä Polkka". It is actually purple in different shades of purple and white, but for some reason it is really difficult to get the colors to come out right even during the daytime in winter, here in Finland. This pair is a very basic one and I didn't even bother to find the same spot in the color to have the socks to match exactly, since they are for me and I use them at home only. I like the striped version of this yarn better, but I do like that this yarn also makes a pattern on its own due to the coloring of the yarn.
This was the first thing I finished this year, yey!
