Lupasin tehdä kaverilleni unikaveriksi tällaisen afrikankukkapöllön. Kriteereinä oli, että pöllön pitää olla "retroväreissä", ruskeaa ja vihreää, eli väritys ei saa olla sellainen, että se miellyttäisi hänen tytärtään. Tyttärelle olen tehnyt aikaisemmin afrikankukkahevosen ja afrikankukkanorsun, joista tuli hänen lempi-unilelujaan. Kyseiselle äidille tein jo aikaisemmin Afrikankukka-Pegasoksen, mutta tytär sosialisoi senkin. Tyttärellä on siis nyt kolme afrikankukkaeläintä ja äidillä ei vieläkään yhtään. Senpä vuoksi toive oli nyt sellaisesta väristä, joka ei välttämättä lasta miellyttäisi ja äiskä saisi pitää pöllönsä. :) Jännä nähdä kuinka käy. Pöllön ohje on
JO's Crocheterian Maggie the African Flower Owl pillow, joka on nyt saatavilla Ravelrysta myös suomenkielisenä allekirjoittaneen kääntämänä. Olen kääntänyt Jolle myös muutaman muun afrikankukkaeläimen ohjeen ja pari on edelleen työn alla. Pidän tästä pöllötyynystä ja pöllön levollisesta ilmeestä. Vanua tämä projekti nielee aivan tolkuttomasti, mutta pehmojen kunnollinen täyttäminen on kyllä yksi onnistumisen salaisuus; täytteen pitää olla kunnollista pehmojen täytteeksi soveltuvaa laadukasta, hygienistä polyesterivanua (ei missään nimessä mitään vanjoja tyynyjä tms.!!!), joka pitää maltilla pienissä osissa laittaa paikoilleen. Vanua on myös käytettävä riittävästi, vaikka sitä paljon meneekin, jotta lopputulos on hyvä. Välillä näkee muhkuraisia ja selvästi vajaita pehmoja, joista saisi paljon parempia täyttämällä niitä riittävästi ja tarpeeksi huolellisesti. Pöllön lankana olen käyttänyt puuvillasekoitelankaa, josta pidän paljon näissä afrikankukkaeläimissä.
I promised to make an African Flower Owl pillow as a "sleeping buddy" for a friend of mine. She wanted it in "retro" colors, in green and brown. She did not want the owl to appeal to her young daughter, for whom I have previously made an African Flower pony and an African Flower elephant. My friend told me her daughter just loves her African Flower animals and when I made an African Flower Pegasos for the mother, the daughter took that one too. So now she has three and the mother still has none. :) So that is why the colors are this way, so her daughter would not take the owl too... Well, we'll see what happens.
The pattern for the owl is by JO's Crocheteria and can be purchased from Ravelry. I really like this owl, she has such a peaceful expression.
This project takes up an awful lot of fiber filling, but the key to making nice stuffed animals or pillows for that matter, is using good quality hygienic polyester filling and using enough of it and taking your time in filling the project. I have sometimes seen somewhat lumpy stuffed animals that have not been filled enough or with enough thought. With a little effort they could be made so much better. So make sure you stuff your projects properly. :) The yarn used in this owl is a cotton blend yarn.
