Afrikankukkalohikäärme - Smaug the African Flower Dragon

Keskimmäinen veljenpojistani täytti kuusi vuotta kesäkuussa. Isoveljensä oli tilannut afrikankukkalohikäärmeen syntymäpäivälahjakseen helmikuussa ja nyt tämä veli sai myös omansa. Vanhempi veli halusi punaisen ja tämä keskimmäinen pojista vihreä. Valitettavasti tällä tädillä oli aika paljon kiireitä alkukesästä ja lohikäärme valmistui n. kuukauden verran myöhässä. Onneksi lohikäärme oli edelleen tervetullut lahja ja isovelikin tykkäsi, että se on "makee". 

Ohje on Heidi Bearsin käsialaa. Lohikäärme on suurin afrikankukkaeläimistä ja siihen menee kukkiakin n. kolme kertaa yhden hepan tai hipon verran. Jotta suuritöisyytensä vuoksi se valmistui vasta nyt. Lankana tässä on puuvillasekoitelanka ja koukkuna 2,5 mm koukku.

I have three nephews. The middle one turned six this June. His older brother wanted an African flower dragon for his birthday in February and now this brother got his too. The one I made in February was red-based according to his wishes and this one greenish according to this little boys wishes. Unfortunately this aunt was super busy during June and beginning of July, so I only got to finish this dragon now. Luckily it was still accepted with a big smile. Even the older brother thought it was cool. 

This pattern is by Heidi Bears design and is the biggest one of the African flower animals. It takes approximately three times the flowers the happypotamus does, so there is quite bit of work involved. The yarn I used was a cotton blend yarn and the hook a 2,5 mm hook.

Uusi lohikäärme! - Behold the New Smaug!

Sain viimein valmiiksi kummipoikani huomisia syntymäpäiviä varten hänen lahjaksi toivomansa afrikankukkalohikäärmeen. Olen työstänyt tätä kaveria parisen viikkoa sammakoiden ja parin muun jutun ohessa. Tämäkin on Heidi Bears designin suunnittelema ja näistä afrikankukkaeläimistä kaikista suuritöisin. Tähän menee kukkia (ja aikaa) kolminkertainen määrä esimerkiksi hippoon verrattuna. Tein tämän samaisen lohikäärmeen miehelleni hänen haluamissaan väreissä pari vuotta sitten syntymäpäivälahjaksi. Kummipoikani on katsellut mieheni lohikäärmettä vuosien varrella ja kysellyt koska hän saa oman. Lupasin tehdä lohikäärmeen hänelle nyt 8-vuotissyntymäpäivälahjaksi. Toivomus oli punaisesta lohikäärmeestä, joten sellaisen sitten tein. Toivottavasti päivänsankari pitää huomenna "loharistaan". :)


I finally finished this African Flower Dragon. This is a birthday gift for my godson. I have been working on this fella for the last couple of weeks along side the frogs and a couple of other things. This African Flower Dragon is also designed by Heidi Bears design and is the biggest one of the African Flower creatures she has designed. This one takes up three times the flowers (and the work) the Happypotamus does for example.
I also made this dragon as a birthday gift for my hubby two years back in the colors of his choosing. My godson always liked the dragon and kept asking when he is going to get one. So I promised to make him one for this birthday as he is turning eight tomorrow. He wanted a red one as my hubby's is too, so that is what I made. Hope he is gonna love it tomorrow when he gets it. :)

Virkattu lohikäärme

Mieheni toivoi itselleen syntymäpäivälahjaksi Heidi Bears designin suunnittelemaa Smaug-lohikäärmettä. Virkkasin sellaisen viime keväänä ja siitä asti on tehnyt mieli tehdä toinenkin, mutta ei ole vielä löytynyt aikaa, kun on niin monta muutakin asiaa, joita haluaisin kokeilla. :) Tämä on ehdottomasti työläin näistä Afrikankukkaeläimistä ja vei todella paljon aikaa ja lankaa. Lohikäärme on helposti kissan kokoinen. Lohikäärme on tehty Red Heart Miami -langasta, joka maksoi yli 3 euroa kerä ja keriä meni siihen lukemattomia. Pelkkien lankojen hinnaksi taisi tulla viitisenkymppiä. Mutta mitäpä sitä ei rakkaalle miehelleen tekisi. ;) Mieheni muuten itse suunnitteli Smaugin värit. :)

Smaug the Dragon by Heidi Bears

My hubby asked for a Smaug the Dragon, by Heidi Bears design, for his birthday. I crocheted this last Spring and have wanted to make another one ever since, but haven't just not found the time, since there are so many other things I would like to try out too! :) This is by far the most work requiring project out of the African flower animals. The dragon is about the size of a big cat. This dragon was made with Red Heart Miami and it took up a lot of yarn. I would estimate that the yarn on its own costed about 50 euros. But hey, it was made with love to my love. :) By the way, my hobby designed the colors to this project himself.
