Enkelin Siivet -huivi - Angel Wings Shawl

Ostin Lankamaailmasta tällaista vihreän sävyistä hile-lankaa joulukuussa ajatuksena tehdä siitä jonkinlainen huivi. Sue Pinnerin suunnittelema mini-cal (eli crochet-along, "yhteisvirkkausprojekti") Angel Wings shawl eli "Enkelin Siivet -huivi" oli saatavilla joulukuun loppupuolella, viimeinen osa taisi tulla 29.12.. Ohje löytyy linkin takaa. Tämä huivi tai shaali oli kiva, helppo ja nopea tehdä. Virkkasin sen käytännössä kahdelta istumalta. Lankaa käytin 2 x100 g kerää. Lanka on dk-paksuista ja koukkuna minulla oli 4 mm koukku. Tein neljä ylimäääräistä kerrosta isoäidin neliömallia saadakseni huville riittävästi kokoa. Reunuksen kaksi viimeistä kerrosta tein yksivärisellä valkoisella akryylilangalla, kun vihreä lanka loppui. Valkoinen sopi minusta kuitenkin tähän hyvin, koska vihreän langan seassa oli myös valkoisia pätkiä.
Huivi pitäisi vielä jaksaa pingottaa, jotta reunus pysyisi kunnolla suorassa. Minusta tämä malli on tosi kaunis ja aidosti enkelin siipien mallinen. Ajattelin tehdä vielä (ainakin) toisen huivin aran-paksuisesta langasta, jotta siitä tulisi vielä suurempi, luultavasti 5-5,5 mm koululla.
Laskeskelin karkeasti aloittaneeni n. sata erilaista käsityötä viime vuonna. Niistä valmiiksi tuli varmaankin n. 95%. Tämä oli siis jo toinen tänä vuonna valmistunut työ. Huima vauhti siis päällä tällekin vuodelle.


I bought this green colored bling bling yarn from a yarn store in December and thought I would make a scarf of some sort out of it. Sue Pinner's Angel Wings -mini CAL (crochet-along) started late December and the last part was handed out December 29 if I remember correctly. The pattern may be found here. This shawl was a lot of fun to make and it was quite easy and quick to work up. I basically crocheted it in two parts in couple of hours. I used two skeins of 100 g yarn. The yarn is dk-weight and I used a 4 mm hook. I ended up making four extra rounds to build the size a little bit more. I did the last final rounds in the edging with simple white acrylic yarn since I run out of the green one, but I think it works nice, since the green yarn also had some white bits in it. 
The Shawl still needs blocking, which is my least favorite thing, but otherwise the edge will not be straight all the way through. I really loved this pattern, I think it is beautiful and really resembles the wings of an angel. 
I am thinking about making another one in aran-weight yarn, to make it even bigger, using a 5 or 5,5 mm hook. 
I calculated that I started around 100 pieces last year and finished probably about 95% of them. This is the second one I have finished this year, so I can definitely try to beat my record this year. :)

Whispers from the past on Helen Shrimptonin uusi cal, eli yhteinen virkkausprojekti, josta julkaistaan uusi osa viikoittain. Ohje löytyy täältä. Myös Mandala Madness oli Helen Shrimptonin suunnittelema. Tällä viikolla julkaistaan jo kolmas osa. Olen pohdiskellut ehdinkö ja haluanko tehdä myös tämän... Jotenkin kuvio ei aluksi oikein puhutellut. Eikä valmiissa värimalleissa ollut ainuttakaan, mistä olisi pitänyt. Päätin kuitenkin kokeille ensimmäisen osan ruutua ja malli sitten tuli tutuksi ja mukavemmaksi. Suunnittelin muutamaan otteeseen omaa värimaailmaa ja päädyin tällaiseen lila-valkoinen yhdistelmään. Sisätiloissa otetuissa kuvissa on ilta-aikaan tähän aikaan vuodesta se ongelma, että värit ovat ihan mitä sattuu. Tässä palassa on kolmea erisävyistä lilaa ja valkoista. Uloimman reunan tumma lila näyttää kuvissa lähes mustalta, mutta sitä se ei kuitenkaan ole. Lankana tässä(kin) on Stylecraft Special DK. Näitä pitäisi tehdä vielä kolme lisää (osa 1) ja liittää ne sitten yhteen (osa 2). Ruutu pitäisi myös vielä pingottaa. Carousel-viltit ovat vielä myöskin kesken. Saapi nähdä mitä kaikkea sitä kerkeää tekemään. Intoa olisi enemmän kuin aikaa. :D



Whispers from the past is a new cal by Helen Shrimpton. You may find the pattern here. The Mandala Madness was also designed by Helen. A cal or a crochet along is a crochet project where one piece of the pattern is released each week until its done. This week it is already part three. I have been pondering whether to join in in this cal or not. Somehow the overall appearance didn't quite take and the ready color pallets were really not for me either. I decided to go for the first square and come up with my own color scheme. I decided eventually to go with purples and white. The pictures taken indoors at this time of the year really do no not come out right. The darkest shade of purple looks almost black, which it is not. There are three shades of purple plus white in my square. The yarn used is Stylecraft Special DK. I am supposed to make three more (as part 1) and then crochet them together (part 2). The square still needs blocking too. I am still working on the Carousel blankets as well. We'll just have to wait and see whether I will have time to finish this too. I have more enthusiasm than I do time! :D
